Okay, since tomorrow is Halloween, I have to tell you about a mummy.
Well, a king, technically.
And one of the most fabulous discoveries in fashion history.
On November 26, 1922, an archaeologist named Howard Carter was standing in front of a sealed doorway in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings.
He’d been searching for years.
He carefully chipped a tiny hole in the door, held up a candle, and peeked inside.
Behind him, his partner Lord Carnarvon asked, “Can you see anything?”
And Carter replied,
“Yes, wonderful things.”

He had just discovered King Tut’s tomb, filled with treasures that had been hidden for more than 3000 years.
Gold everywhere. Gorgeous blue and turquoise. Jewelry. Objects so incredible they looked like they belonged to another world.
And then something happened that I absolutely love.
The world went crazy for Egyptian fashion.
They called it Tutmania!
Women started wearing scarab jewelry, lotus flowers, and gorgeous Egyptian-inspired patterns. Cartier created Egyptian-inspired jewelry. There was even a song called “Old King Tut.”
I mean, an archaeological discovery started a fashion craze!
How fabulous is that?!
And it all started with one tiny peek through a doorway.
But here’s what I keep thinking about for you and me.
How many wonderful things are sitting in the back of our own closets?
The gold necklace still in its box. The gorgeous dress we completely forgot we owned. The beautiful little treasures we bought, loved, and then tucked away somewhere.
Still wonderful.
Still waiting to be discovered.
Maybe all we need to do is open the door and take another look. Maybe Halloween is the perfect time.
PUT ON In honor of King Tut, wear something GOLD today.
A necklace. A fabulous belt. Your biggest, shiniest earrings.
Pretend it’s 1923 and you’ve just discovered the latest fashion craze.
And tell me, what’s the most wonderful thing you’ve rediscovered in your closet?
