Let's talk about the other kind of morning.
Not the one where you open the closet and feel the pull. The one where you open it and want to close it again.
Your body feels like a stranger. Nothing sits right. The thing that fit in March is arguing with you. And this practice I keep describing, the reach, the better piece, the woman you are becoming, sounds like something for a woman having a different week than the one you are having.
I know that morning. I have had years of them.
Here is the only thing I have found that works, and it is not a pep talk.
On those mornings, you make the choice smaller. Not braver. Smaller.
You don’t reach for the thing that asks you to feel beautiful. You reach for the thing that is kind to you and still yours. The soft pants and the good earrings. The plain shirt in the color you love. One piece with your fingerprints on it.
It’s simply one small reach on a morning that wants you to stay under the covers.
Because the goal was never to feel gorgeous every morning. It’s to keep the line open between you and yourself. Some mornings that line is a full outfit. Some mornings it is one earring and a spritz of something.
So tell me. What is the one piece you own that is kind to you? Every woman has one. Hit reply, I want to know what it is.
PUT ON the kind thing today, plus one small piece of yourself. The earring. The color. The perfume. Hard mornings still count. They might count most.
