Okay, I have a confession.
Last week I was standing in my closet, wearing nothing but a towel, completely stuck.
Yes, ME.
The woman who writes to you about getting dressed. The woman who has spent years shopping, studying clothes, building a wardrobe she absolutely loves, and teaching other women how to get dressed.
It was just me and my towel standing there getting cold staring at a closet full of beautiful things thinking, I have absolutely nothing to wear.
This was not my best moment but it wasn’t the first time, obviously.
I’ve gotten very good at believing I have nothing to wear.
I kept asking myself, “What do I want to wear today?”
And got no inspiration.
I looked at a pair of jeans. Nope. A blazer. Maybe. A dress. Absolutely not.
And then I caught myself. I remembered I was asking the wrong question.
Instead of asking what I wanted to WEAR, I asked myself how I wanted to FEEL.
That changed everything.
I had a meeting that afternoon, and I wanted to feel calm, confident, and powerful. I wanted to feel like I already belonged in the room. Like the thing I was going in to ask for was practically a formality.
And suddenly, there it was.
A little heart pound for a certain blazer I hadn’t worn in months. Paired with those jeans and well, since it is fall - the boots in the back.
DONE.
Nothing about my closet had changed. But I had finally given it some direction.
And that’s what I want you to remember today.
The real question isn’t always what do I want to wear. It’s what feeling do I want to wear?
Because even the most beautiful closet in the world can’t answer a question you haven’t asked yourself.
And frankly, I’m tired of standing around in a towel.
PUT ON Before you reach for your clothes today, ask yourself how you want to feel.
Maybe it’s powerful. Maybe it’s peaceful. Maybe it’s just really, really good.
Name it. And then get dressed for it.
Tell me, what feeling are you wearing today?
