What have you been balancing out since you were fifteen?
Every one of us has been handed the same instruction since we were small. Minimize it. Balance it out. Choose the cut that hides it, the color that distracts from it, the angle that makes it less noticeable.
I’m not going to tell you to love the thing you’ve been minimizing. That’s a big ask and I don’t think it works on demand. But I’d like you to consider that it might be your best asset, and that you’ve been running somebody else’s playbook on it your whole life.
Your height, your hands, your gray, your freckles, your laugh. Whatever it is, hit reply or leave a comment and tell me. One word is enough, and if you’re not ready to wear it yet, just naming it counts.
I’ll go first. My curves. When I was a kid, people made fun of me for being “too big,” so I spent most of my life hiding. I know now that all my joy is wrapped up in letting myself be big: big laugh, big dreams, big earrings.
And if you have a friend with the best laugh in the room, send her this.
PUT ON Wear the thing that draws the eye right to it, on purpose, for one day. Push the fault and see what happens.
