For most of my life I had it backwards.
I believed the results would come first and the joy would arrive after. Earn enough, then feel free. Build big enough, then feel worthy. Prove yourself, then enjoy the proof.
So joy stayed just ahead of me. Just out of reach. Just behind the next achievement. I kept waiting on it like a package stuck in shipping.
Then I finally understood. Joy is the job. It was never the prize waiting at the end of it.
And once that hit, everything changed.
If you want a big beautiful life, your joy has to come first. Everything else follows behind it. If money leads, joy collapses. If joy leads, money compounds. I tested this the hard way for years so you don't have to.
And it applies straight to the closet. Getting dressed out of habit, obligation, or the path of least resistance sends one signal to your whole day. But reaching for the piece that delights you, before you have a single reason to feel delighted, sends another. The yellow thing. The good earrings on a plain old work day. The weight of them on your ears while you pour the coffee.
Joy is the lever. Pull it first.
So here's today's question. If joy were choosing your outfit this morning, what would you be wearing? Don't let the brain answer. The brain will suggest beige. Let joy answer.
PUT ON the thing joy just named, or the closest thing to it hanging in your closet right now. Then watch what follows it into your day. Something always follows.
