Some mornings you put something on and you can tell, before you even leave the bathroom, that it's bigger than where you're going.
The blazer is a little much for school pickup. The boots are a little forward for the grocery store. The color is brighter than the day requires. And a voice, old and familiar, says tone it down. You don't need to be that much today.
Notice that voice. It's always true that it wants you smaller than the moment. She's probably been saying that same thing to you in various forms since you were little. And for me anyway, I can remember the real memories like bad scenes in a movie replaying. A person. A tease. Someone laughing while looking me up and down.
What if we didn't take those memories seriously anymore? What if we pretended those villains were just funny cartoon characters?
Be a little too much. That's the order of things if you want an extraordinary life. You expand first. Most people don't understand. Eventually they will catch up.
And while we're here, if you're in rooms that can't handle your aliveness on full blast, find the bigger room.
PUT ON something today that is slightly more than the room (or day) expects. Then watch the reactions. I'm excited to hear how it goes.
