Every weekday morning, before the emails and the meetings and the person in the next room who can’t find a shoe, there’s a moment. You’re standing in front of your closet. It looks like you’re choosing clothes. It took me years to figure out it was never about the clothes. You’re deciding who you’re going to be today.
I think it’s one of the most overlooked conversations we have with ourselves. Every hanger asks the same question: who are you today? Not who the calendar says you have to be. The woman you were, you are, and you’re becoming.
I’m Melissa Goodwin, the woman behind The Morning Dress.
I’ve been a thousand things - most of those you’ll read about day to day. But I’m mostly every woman who has ever stood foot in her closet and felt like she had nothing to wear.
Some mornings we’ll laugh. Dressing room disasters, impulse buys, trend traps, the thrill of something extraordinary on clearance. Other mornings we’ll go deeper: identity, courage, ambition, aging, money, motherhood, grief, and the versions of ourselves we’ve left hanging in the back of the closet.
We’ll talk about why a blazer can feel like permission. Why red lipstick can be a declaration. Why the dress you’ve never worn is rarely about the dress.
This isn’t fashion advice. You won’t get rules about what’s flattering, and you won’t get a ten-piece capsule wardrobe. What you wear doesn’t create your worth. It can reconnect you to it.
If you’re curious about more of what I do, you can check out my Youtube channel or find me at www.melissagoodwin.com.
So make the coffee. Open the closet. Take a breath. Let’s get dressed. Not just for the day. For the woman who needs to answer that question of what to wear today.
I’m so glad you’re here.
